The TPM (Tempo Para Meninas) project provides a dedicated space for girls, raising awareness on topics related to womanhood while distributing washable sanitary pads for girls in the most need. The sessions cover a range of essential topics, including:
-
Understanding the menstrual cycle
-
Self-esteem and confidence
-
Sexual abuse prevention
-
Teen pregnancy awareness
-
Fatherlessness
-
The value of women from a faith-based perspective

In a society where girls still feel ashamed to purchase or even carry sanitary pads, menstruation remains a taboo topic. Many girls go through their first period in isolation, without discussing it with family or friends.
TPM is committed to breaking this silence by fostering open conversations and empowering girls with the knowledge and resources they need.

Menstrual poverty is the name given to the situation of thousands of women around the world who do not have access to basic hygiene items during their menstrual period. According to the UN (United Nations), one in ten women in the world have missed school because they do not have a sanitary pad available, jeopardizing their education - an essential factor in women’s empowerment. In Brazil, this statistic rises to four in ten.
Although the UN has considered, since 2014, access to menstrual hygiene a right which must be treated as a public health issue, this is not a reality. In a survey carried out by UNICEF, 62% of girls stated that they have stopped going to school or social activities because of menstruation, and 73% have felt embarrassed in these environments.

TPM meetings follow a structured format:

Gabriela Brandao
Born in Aracaju, Brazil, Gabriela is a qualified attorney (OAB/SE 10.150), recently graduated the master’s program of Missional Leadership at the Trinity Bible College and Graduate School (North Dakota, US) and also president of the Chad Daniel Institute.
In 2019, Gabriela transitioned from her legal career to follow the missionary calling she acknowledged to have since the teenager years. Since then, she has been fulfilling her vocation by discipling teenagers and ministering the Word of God to young people and adults in countries around Africa and North America, as well as Brazil.
It was during a missionary trip to Zambia that Gabriela first encountered extreme menstrual poverty. In partnership with the Reaching a Generation Ministry, based in South Africa, Gabriela visited schools and villages in the Sioma region, by the Zambezi River, in order to teach girls and women about sensitive issues in the feminine world, followed by the distribution of sanitary pads.
This mission experience caused such an impact, Gabriela returned to Brazil not only full of memories, but also with an extra suitcase full of sanitary pads, determined to replicate the missional model in her homeland.
